about

Greetings and welcome to KOMPAKT's first installment of our summer holiday program. We pondered “Why is it that when the sun is shining all day on the beach of Santa Wherever, folks must go about playing mindless, pumping boom-boom instead of taking in the moment by savoring something nice and peaceful?” Can it be so difficult to relax? What would actually happen if somebody were to stop the bass kick for 5 to 8 minutes? We concur: There's nothing to be afraid of. Really... And feel it's necessary to contribute something non-pumping to this summer 2005. At least something not-so-pumping. Even if our chosen lifeguards are responsible for some of the finest dancefloor rockets around, they put maximum effort into creating something not-so-pumping to make this Speicher edition a very particular one. With “Wombat“, the Wighnomy Bros deliver their most wicked bassline so far. It wiggles in such a fresh and exhilarating way that it's almost a shame when it makes way for the breakdown. But then this “love pad“ drops in, it builds up this heavenly tsunami of emotions. You'll be certain to feel more than compensated. “Wombat“ continues where "Wurz & Blosse“ (KOM EX 19) left us off last summer - arguably the most played Speicher track ever. (side note: wombats are thoroughly likeable Australian marsupials that take about 14 days to digest one meal. Now that's what we call relaxed!) Kompakt's king of breaking all that's taboo, invited his dear friend and band member Fred Heimermann to bring along his guitar in order to do something no one else would ever dare… Create an ambient track for Speicher!?!?! (Holy f***... scandal! Traitors! Wimps! Gimme my money back!) But again we concur, “Hey, it's summer!” So stop that pumping beat for 5 to 8 minutes and look around you. Take in that gorgeous albatros doing his thing in the sky. It's not so bad, is it? In 1971, Fleetwood Mac released the original version of “Albatros“ which since has remained a f***ing classic. Apart from its brief (and illegal) guest appearance on The KLF's „Chill Out“ masterpiece, “Albatros” has remained a firm staple in Michael Mayer's warm-up and cool-down sets for years. Köhncke/Heimermann's careful re-interpretation is a fantastic piece of ambient music, and undoubtedly the finest ear candy for the sunny season. Give yourself a break for 5-8 minutes, dear friend!
